"Birthdays are meant to be celebrated and milestone birthdays are meant to be remembered."
When she told me about her birthday, the thought of having an intimate dinner at Alexander's Steakhouse came into mind. As the days came closer to her special day, I made reservations and together we ventured to this highly anticipated steakhouse. Chef Jeffrey Stout and James Chen's culinary drive and the vehicle to launch this exclusive dining experience have gone above my high expectations.
The establishment definitely spells out Donald Trump with its mahogany cigar humidor cabinets and vast wine selection inside climate controlled rooms. Its dark brown colors immediately announced a big spender's venue as it was filled with corporate diners and upper class families on this Tuesday evening. We were immediately escorted to our table and presented a peaceful setting for two. This evening is special for its Donna Y's birthday. What way to celebrate a milestone birthday. Especially someone I've had the opportunity to know on a personal level outside of our circle of friends.
Attentive Service
I had already known much about its imported beef and it was pleasant to hear the restaurant's relationship with Japan and Australia . Our waiter, Josh, was on top of his game for this evening's celebration. First class service was presented as he spent in high detail on the evening specials, menu selections, and the birthday delivery of Donna's dessert.
Asian Yuzu Mojito
I have embraced the richness of this cocktail on some many different levels. The Asian twist brought out a whole new level with its sweetness from real fruit. This will be a round up request when I return again - Especially when I'm not the designated driver. Hint: Gentlemen, this is a lady pleaser by my books. Take note if your date asks for a cocktail outing.
New England Clam Chowder
Supreme! This by far is the best house chowder ever. Filled with generous clam instead of potatoes, the aroma hit the spot with its superb herbs and soothing cream sauce. Arrived lukewarm with a single round cracker, I was amazed by its perfect blend. Texture of clams was magnificent - soft & chewy.
Tuna Takaki
This will be a skip it listing. The presentation of this tiny side dish was not that impressive. Yes, we were able to enjoy the fresh tuna. However, its portion did not justify its cost. This reminded me of a taste tester sample.
Strawberry & Lychee Sorbet (The palette cleanser)
I am still amazed on the reaction from the birthday girl. Her eyes were wide open as the pleasant taste of this organic palette cleanser freaked her out. "That's hella good!" as she said.
Lobster Mac N Cheese
Aside the fact that it was very oily, I'm going to say the highlight was the fresh lobster. Other than that this would be another skip it. The macaroni was soggy and didn't amaze me.
Dry Aged Porterhouse
20 oz of succulent meat! Aged to perfection the natural juices of this Alexander Asset was truly award winning. This is what meat lovers come here for - the meat. Ignore your diets and spoil yourself for this opportunity to indulge in high quality meat as your palettes tantalize all that is given to make you smile. Aging is the key natural ingredient here. I was reminded of my younger days when my family and I ventured to different cities and dining at five restaurants that served high quality cuts and prepped from exclusive chefs from around the world. I can thank my parents for that. Now I really need to re-evaluate myself when I recommend steakhouses to others.
A Guigal Chateau D'Ampuis
This French wine rang with strong essence giving the Birthday girl the tipsy feeling that I so marked for. Being a gentleman, I frequently encouraged the celebrant to indulge as I watched the beauty of her Asian cheeks turn red. Thank the God wine for the magic of blackberries, prune, and vanilla. This was truly a sexual seduction in the making - syrah!
White Dragon Pearls
After a big dinner this beautiful taste of dried Asian tea soothed our roller coaster ride here. I loved the serving tea kettle and cups - stainless steel leave trap (best in the market).
Sour Apple Cotton Candy
This brings out the kid in every adult. How could we refuse such a finale to our dinner? Watching the birthday girl tear apart the green fluffy ball into bite size pieces was such a joy!
Afterthoughts.....
I rarely do special things for people, especially for romance. But this night (for the record)... I did sing Happy Birthday to the birthday girl. That's how special great company and a five star restaurant should make you feel.
Notes:
Valet Parking: $10.00 in advance.
Dinner Reservations are highly recommended.
Next visit will be in a month. I have another birthday celebrant in mind.
